Richardson is a city located in the state of Texas, United States. It is a part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is situated in Dallas County. With a population of approximately 121,323 as of 2020, Richardson is known for its diverse community, strong economy, and excellent educational institutions.

The area where Richardson is now located was initially settled by European immigrants in the mid-1800s. The city was named after E.H. Richardson, a railroad contractor who built the rail line that passed through the area. Richardson experienced significant growth in the early 20th century, primarily due to the expansion of the railroad and the establishment of several cotton mills.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Richardson covers a total area of 28.6 square miles (74.1 square kilometers), with 28.4 square miles (73.6 square kilometers) of land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 square kilometers) of water. It is situated in the northeastern part of Texas, approximately 14 miles (23 kilometers) north of downtown Dallas.

Richardson has a strong and diverse economy, with a focus on telecommunications, technology, and healthcare industries. The city is home to numerous major corporations, including AT&T, Verizon, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. The Telecom Corridor, a stretch of land along US Route 75, is known for its concentration of telecommunications-related companies.

Richardson is renowned for its excellent educational institutions. The city is served by the Richardson Independent School District (RISD), which operates several elementary, middle, and high schools. RISD consistently ranks among the top school districts in Texas.
