Riverside County

Riverside County is a county located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,470,546, making it the fourth-most populous county in California and the 10th-most populous in the United States. The name was derived from the city of Riverside, which is the county seat.

Riverside County is bordered by Orange County to the west, San Bernardino County to the north, and San Diego County to the south. It shares a border with the U.S. state of Arizona to the east. The county's geography ranges from the Pacific Ocean to the Colorado Desert.

History[edit | edit source]

Riverside County was formed in 1893 from portions of San Bernardino County and San Diego County. The county is named for its location beside the Santa Ana River.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

According to the 2020 United States Census, Riverside County had a population of 2,470,546. The racial makeup of the county was 65.5% White, 7.2% African American, 1.2% Native American, 7.0% Asian, 0.4% Pacific Islander, and 18.7% from other races.

Economy[edit | edit source]

Riverside County's economy is diverse, with a strong presence in the agriculture, manufacturing, and service sectors. The county is also known for its wine production, particularly in the Temecula Valley AVA.

Riverside County is home to several colleges and universities, including the University of California, Riverside and California Baptist University.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Riverside County is served by several major highways, including Interstate 10, Interstate 15, and State Route 91. The county also has several airports, including Palm Springs International Airport and Riverside Municipal Airport.
