Robert Asaro-Angelo
Robert Asaro-Angelo is an American labor leader and public servant who has served as the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development since January 2018. He was appointed by Governor Phil Murphy and confirmed by the New Jersey Senate.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Robert Asaro-Angelo was born and raised in New Jersey. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Boston University and a Master of Public Administration from the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University.
Career[edit | edit source]
Early Career[edit | edit source]
Before his appointment as Commissioner, Asaro-Angelo held various positions in labor organizations and government. He worked for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the New York City Central Labor Council. He also served as the Eastern Regional Representative for the U.S. Department of Labor under President Barack Obama.
Commissioner of New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development[edit | edit source]
As Commissioner, Asaro-Angelo has focused on improving worker protections, expanding workforce development programs, and enhancing the state's unemployment insurance system. He has been instrumental in implementing policies aimed at increasing the minimum wage, expanding paid family leave, and ensuring worker safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Robert Asaro-Angelo resides in New Jersey with his family. He is actively involved in various community and labor organizations.
