Rockville Centre is a village located in Nassau County, New York, on the South Shore of Long Island. It is part of the Town of Hempstead.

The area of Rockville Centre was originally inhabited by the Reckouakie tribe, a branch of the Algonquin peoples. The village was named after Mordecai "Rock" Smith, a local Methodist preacher who was instrumental in the community's development.
Rockville Centre was incorporated as a village in 1893. The arrival of the Long Island Rail Road in the 19th century spurred growth and development, transforming it into a suburban community.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.4 square miles, of which 3.3 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,623.
Education[edit | edit source]
Rockville Centre is served by the Rockville Centre Union Free School District, which includes several elementary schools, one middle school, and South Side High School. The village is also home to Molloy University, a private Catholic university.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
The village is accessible via the Long Island Rail Road's Rockville Centre station, providing direct service to Penn Station in Manhattan.
Notable People[edit | edit source]
- Howard Stern, radio and television personality, grew up in Rockville Centre.
- Amy Schumer, comedian and actress, was born in Rockville Centre.
