Roger Caron was a Canadian author and bank robber, known for his writings about his experiences in the Canadian prison system. He gained notoriety for his book Go-Boy! Memories of a Life Behind Bars, which won the Governor General's Award for English-language non-fiction in 1978.

Roger Caron was born in 1938 in Cornwall, Ontario. He grew up in a challenging environment and turned to crime at an early age. Caron was first incarcerated at the age of 16, marking the beginning of a long history of imprisonment.
Criminal Career[edit | edit source]
Caron became infamous for his numerous bank robberies across Canada. He was known for his ability to escape from prison, earning him the nickname "Go-Boy". His criminal activities and repeated escapes made him a well-known figure in the Canadian criminal justice system.
Writing Career[edit | edit source]
While serving time in prison, Caron began writing about his experiences. His most famous work, Go-Boy! Memories of a Life Behind Bars, provides a detailed account of life in Canadian prisons. The book was critically acclaimed and brought attention to the conditions within the prison system.
Caron continued to write after his release, publishing several other books, including Bingo! The Horrifying Eyewitness Account of a Prison Riot and Joey: The True Story of One Man's Struggle Against a Brutal Canadian Prison System.

In his later years, Caron struggled with health issues and the consequences of his past life. He passed away in 2012, leaving behind a legacy as both a notorious criminal and a respected author.
