Ron Cihuatán
Ron Cihuatán is a renowned rum brand from El Salvador. It is the first and only rum distillery in the country, and it is owned by Licorera Cihuatán, a subsidiary of Grupo Cihuatán. The distillery is located in the Cihuatán valley, a region rich in history and mythology.
History[edit | edit source]
Licorera Cihuatán was established in 2004 by the Dumont Family, a family with a long history in the sugar industry in El Salvador. The family decided to venture into the rum production business, leveraging the abundance of sugarcane in the Cihuatán valley. The first bottle of Ron Cihuatán was released in 2015, marking a significant milestone in the country's spirits industry.
Production[edit | edit source]
Ron Cihuatán is made from sugarcane harvested from the fields surrounding the distillery. The sugarcane is crushed to extract the juice, which is then fermented and distilled. The rum is aged in American oak barrels, which gives it its distinctive flavor and color.
Products[edit | edit source]
Ron Cihuatán produces several types of rum, each with its unique flavor profile. These include:
- Ron Cihuatán 8 Year Old: Aged for eight years, this rum has notes of caramel, vanilla, and tropical fruits.
- Ron Cihuatán 12 Year Old: This rum is aged for twelve years and has a rich, complex flavor with notes of chocolate, dried fruit, and spices.
- Ron Cihuatán Solera: This is a blend of rums aged using the solera method, resulting in a smooth, well-balanced rum with a long finish.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
Ron Cihuatán has received several awards for its quality and craftsmanship. These include gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
