Roy Romer (born October 31, 1928) is an American politician, lawyer, and educator who served as the 39th Governor of Colorado from 1987 to 1999. A member of the Democratic Party, Romer was known for his work in education reform and his advocacy for public infrastructure and environmental conservation.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Roy Romer was born in Garden City, Kansas, and moved to Colorado at a young age. He attended Colorado State University, where he earned a degree in agricultural economics, and later received a law degree from Yale University.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Romer's political career began in the Colorado General Assembly, where he served for several terms. He was elected as the Governor of Colorado in 1986 and re-elected in 1990 and 1994.
