The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) is a public research university located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1887, RMIT began as a night school offering classes in art, science, and technology. It has since grown into a global university of technology, design, and enterprise.

RMIT was established in 1887 as the Working Men's College of Melbourne by Francis Ormond. The institution aimed to provide education to working men and women in the fields of art, science, and technology. In 1934, it was renamed the Melbourne Technical College, and in 1954, it became the Royal Melbourne Technical College after receiving royal patronage from Queen Elizabeth II. The institution gained university status in 1992 and was renamed the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

RMIT's main campus is located in the heart of Melbourne's Central Business District. The university also has campuses in Bundoora and Brunswick, as well as international campuses in Vietnam and a research and industry collaboration center in Barcelona, Spain.

Melbourne City Campus[edit | edit source]

The Melbourne City campus is the largest and oldest of RMIT's campuses. It is known for its blend of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Building 1, which houses the university's administration and the RMIT Gallery.

Bundoora Campus[edit | edit source]

The Bundoora campus is located in the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne and focuses on health, biomedical sciences, and engineering programs. It features state-of-the-art facilities, including the RMIT Health Sciences Clinic.

Brunswick Campus[edit | edit source]

The Brunswick campus specializes in design, textiles, and fashion programs. It is home to the RMIT School of Fashion and Textiles, which is renowned for its industry connections and innovative approach to design education.
