The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is a learned society in the United Kingdom with the goal of advancing the chemical sciences. It was formed in 1980 from the amalgamation of the Chemical Society, the Royal Institute of Chemistry, the Faraday Society, and the Society for Analytical Chemistry.

History[edit | edit source]

The RSC was established in 1980, but its roots trace back to the early 19th century with the founding of the Chemical Society in 1841. The merger of the four societies in 1980 was aimed at creating a unified body to represent chemists and promote the chemical sciences.

Headquarters[edit | edit source]

The headquarters of the Royal Society of Chemistry is located at Thomas Graham House in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The building is named after Thomas Graham, a notable chemist known for his work on the diffusion of gases.
