Ruinart (Champagne)[edit | edit source]

Ruinart is a renowned Champagne house based in Reims, the capital city of the Champagne region in France. Founded in 1729, it is recognized as the oldest established Champagne house in existence. The house is famous for its premium quality champagnes that are exported worldwide.

History[edit | edit source]

Ruinart was established by Nicolas Ruinart, a draper like his father, who was inspired by a new law in 1728 that allowed the transport of wine in bottles. The house was officially founded on September 1, 1729, and started shipping rose champagne to the German market. The first few years of operation were difficult, but the house managed to survive and thrive.

Production[edit | edit source]

Ruinart produces a range of champagnes, including the non-vintage R de Ruinart, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, and Ruinart Rose. The house also produces a vintage 'Dom Ruinart', which is a blanc de blancs champagne made entirely from Chardonnay grapes.

Cellars[edit | edit source]

The Ruinart cellars, located in the historic Crayères, a series of chalk pits, are among the largest in the Champagne region. They were classified as a historic monument in 1931. The cellars provide the ideal conditions for the slow aging process required by champagne.

Distribution[edit | edit source]

Ruinart champagnes are distributed worldwide and are recognized for their quality and consistency. They are often served at prestigious events and are popular in high-end restaurants and hotels.
