Sabine Parish, Louisiana

Sabine Parish is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Many. The parish was established in 1843 and named after the Sabine River that forms its western border with the state of Texas.

Sabine Parish was created by an act of the Louisiana State Legislature in 1843. The area was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Caddo. European settlers began to arrive in the early 19th century, and the area developed primarily as an agricultural region.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Sabine Parish is located in the western part of Louisiana. It is bordered by DeSoto Parish to the north, Natchitoches Parish to the east, Vernon Parish to the south, and the state of Texas to the west. The Sabine River forms the western boundary of the parish. The parish has a total area of 1,012 square miles, of which 865 square miles is land and 147 square miles is water. The Toledo Bend Reservoir is a significant body of water in the parish, providing recreational opportunities and serving as a major source of hydroelectric power.

As of the 2020 Census, Sabine Parish had a population of approximately 23,884 people. The population density is relatively low, with much of the area being rural and sparsely populated.

The economy of Sabine Parish is largely based on agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The Toledo Bend Reservoir attracts visitors for fishing, boating, and other recreational activities. Additionally, the parish has a growing number of small businesses and industries.
