Sacramento is the capital city of the U.S. state of California. Located at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River, it is the seventh most populous city in California.

Sacramento's history dates back to 1839 when John Sutter, a Swiss immigrant, established Sutter's Fort in the area. The discovery of gold near Sutter's Mill in 1848 led to the California Gold Rush, transforming Sacramento into a bustling commercial center and transportation hub.
