Saga Prefecture

Saga Prefecture (Japanese: 佐賀県, Saga-ken) is a prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyushu. It is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and was founded on the 18th of July, 1871. The capital city of Saga Prefecture is Saga City.

Geography

Saga Prefecture is located in the northwest part of the island of Kyushu. The prefecture borders Fukuoka Prefecture to the northeast and Nagasaki Prefecture to the west. It is surrounded by the Genkai Sea and the Tsushima Strait to the north, and the Ariake Sea to the south.

History

The history of Saga Prefecture dates back to the Jomon period, with numerous archaeological sites found in the region. During the Edo period, Saga was the home of the Saga Domain, a powerful han ruled by the Nabeshima clan.

Economy

Saga Prefecture's economy is largely based on agriculture, with rice and tea being the main crops. The prefecture is also known for its pottery and porcelain, particularly Arita ware and Imari ware.

Culture

Saga Prefecture is rich in cultural heritage, with many traditional festivals such as the Saga International Balloon Fiesta and the Karatsu Kunchi. The prefecture is also known for its traditional arts, including Saga Nishiki (a type of brocade) and Saga beef, a high-quality brand of wagyu.

Education

There are several universities in Saga Prefecture, including Saga University and Saga Women's Junior College. The prefecture also has a number of public and private high schools.

Transportation

Saga Prefecture is served by the Kyushu Railway Company and the Nishi-Nippon Railroad. The prefecture also has several airports, including Saga Airport.
