San Marcos is a city located in the northern part of San Diego County, California, United States. It is situated in the North County region and is approximately 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of downtown San Diego. With a population of over 90,000 residents, San Marcos is known for its beautiful landscapes, thriving economy, and excellent educational institutions.

The area now known as San Marcos was originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, who were indigenous to the region. In the late 18th century, Spanish missionaries arrived and established the San Marcos de Neve mission, which served as a center for religious and agricultural activities.

During the 19th century, San Marcos experienced significant growth with the establishment of ranches and farms. The arrival of the California Southern Railroad in the late 19th century further contributed to the development of the area. In 1963, San Marcos was officially incorporated as a city.
