Errani reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 5 on May 20, 2013, and world No. 1 in doubles on September 10, 2012. Her most notable singles achievement came at the 2012 French Open, where she was the runner-up, losing to Maria Sharapova in the final.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Sara Errani was born in Bologna, Italy, and began playing tennis at the age of five. She developed her game at the Italian Tennis Federation training facilities in Tirrenia and Rome.

Career[edit | edit source]

Early Career[edit | edit source]

Errani turned professional in 2002 and spent the initial years of her career playing in ITF tournaments. She won her first WTA title in 2008 at the Internazionali Femminili di Palermo, defeating Mariya Koryttseva in the final.

2012: Breakthrough Year[edit | edit source]

2012 was a breakthrough year for Errani. She won three WTA singles titles and reached the final of the French Open, where she lost to Maria Sharapova. Her performance at the French Open propelled her into the top 10 of the WTA singles rankings for the first time in her career. Alongside her singles success, Errani, partnering with fellow Italian Roberta Vinci, won the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open women's doubles titles in 2012.

Subsequent Years[edit | edit source]

Following her successful 2012 season, Errani remained a consistent presence in the top 20 of the WTA singles rankings and continued to achieve success in doubles with Vinci. The pair completed a Career Grand Slam in doubles by winning Wimbledon in 2014.

Playing Style[edit | edit source]

Errani is known for her consistency, court coverage, and strong clay-court game. Her serve is not particularly powerful, but she compensates with her excellent doubles skills, including volleying and court positioning.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

In 2017, Errani was suspended for two months after testing positive for letrozole, a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Errani claimed the positive test resulted from accidental food contamination due to her mother's medication. The Court of Arbitration for Sport later extended her suspension to ten months.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Errani is known for her work ethic and dedication to the sport. She has been coached by Pablo Lozano and David Andres since 2015.

Achievements[edit | edit source]

Errani has won numerous titles on the WTA Tour, both in singles and doubles. Her most significant achievements include reaching the singles final of the 2012 French Open and winning five Grand Slam doubles titles with Roberta Vinci.
