Satisfactory is a first-person, open-world, factory building game developed and published by Coffee Stain Studios. It was first released into early access on March 19, 2019, on the Epic Games Store and later on Steam on June 8, 2020. The game is set on an alien planet where the player takes the role of an engineer working for FICSIT Inc., tasked with constructing and automating complex factories and industrial setups to complete project assembly goals while exploring the planet and managing resources.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

In Satisfactory, players are dropped onto an alien planet with a handful of tools and must harvest resources to construct increasingly complex factories for automating the production of various components. The game features a first-person perspective, with players able to explore the game world, gather resources, and engage with the native wildlife, some of which can be hostile.

The core gameplay revolves around the construction of machines and conveyor belts to create materials and components. These components can then be used to build more advanced machinery and infrastructure, such as automated miners, power plants, and assembly lines. Players must manage power supply, resource input and output, and the layout of their factories to maintain efficiency and productivity.

Satisfactory also includes a multiplayer mode, allowing players to collaborate on building factories together. The game's world is vast, featuring diverse biomes and landscapes, which players can traverse using vehicles, jump pads, or trains that they can construct as part of their industrial empire.

Development[edit | edit source]

Satisfactory was developed by Coffee Stain Studios, known for their work on the Goat Simulator series. The game was initially announced in 2018 and released into early access in 2019, with Coffee Stain Studios citing the desire to involve the community in the game's development process. Since its early access launch, Satisfactory has received numerous updates, adding new features, machines, resources, and quality of life improvements based on player feedback.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Since its release, Satisfactory has been well-received by both players and critics, praised for its complex building systems, stunning visuals, and the satisfaction derived from optimizing factory layouts and production lines. The game has been particularly noted for its addictive gameplay loop and the sense of accomplishment from scaling up production capabilities.
