Scaphoid carpal bone[edit | edit source]
Scaphoid is a carpal bone which is hollowed out on its distal surface for the head of the capitate
Scaphoid fossa[edit | edit source]
Scaphoid fossa is the fossa occupied by tensor veli palatini muscle.
Scaphoid anatomy[edit | edit source]
As one of the carpal bones of the wrist, the scaphoid is situated between the hand and forearm on the thumb side of the wrist and forms the radial border of the carpal tunnel.
Scaphoid blood supply[edit | edit source]
Most of the blood supply to the scaphoid bone is via branches of the radial artery. About seventy to eight percent of the intraosseous vascularity and the entire proximal pole is from branches of the radial artery entering through the dorsal ridge.
Scaphoid fractures[edit | edit source]
Fracture of the scaphoid bone leads to pain at the base of the thumb which is worse with use of the hand.
