Scott Sims - Episode 2 - Aloha Vet

Scott Sims was an American veterinarian renowned for his dedication to animal care and his role in the popular reality television series, Aloha Vet. Born on April 13, 1955, in New Jersey, Sims pursued his passion for animal health by obtaining a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of California, Davis. He moved to Kauai, Hawaii, in the late 20th century, where he established the Pegasus Veterinary Clinic. Sims was beloved in his community for his willingness to treat any animal, ranging from domestic pets to exotic wildlife, often going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of his patients.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Scott Sims grew up with a profound love for animals, which guided his educational and career choices. After completing his undergraduate studies, he attended the University of California, Davis, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. This education laid the foundation for his diverse and impactful career in veterinary medicine.

Career[edit | edit source]

Upon receiving his DVM, Sims initially practiced in California. However, his desire to make a more significant impact led him to relocate to Kauai, Hawaii. There, he founded the Pegasus Veterinary Clinic, which quickly became a cornerstone of the local community. Sims was known for his holistic approach to veterinary care, treating animals of all sizes and species, including dogs, cats, horses, and exotic wildlife native to Hawaii.

His work extended beyond the clinic as he often made house calls across the island, sometimes using his personal plane to reach animals in remote locations. This dedication to animal care, regardless of the challenges, earned him the nickname "the James Herriot of Hawaii," after the famous British veterinarian and author.

Aloha Vet[edit | edit source]

Scott Sims' unique approach to veterinary medicine caught the attention of National Geographic, which led to the creation of the reality TV series Aloha Vet. The show premiered in 2015 and followed Sims as he traveled across the Hawaiian islands, providing care to animals in need. Through Aloha Vet, viewers gained insight into the challenges and rewards of veterinary practice in a remote setting, as well as the deep bonds between Sims and the animals he treated.

Scott Sims passed away on July 25, 2015, after a battle with bladder cancer.
