From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Scuba Diving International (SDI) is a scuba diving training agency that was developed in 1999. It is a sister company to the Technical Diving International (TDI) and Emergency Response Diving International (ERDI). SDI is recognized worldwide for its innovative approach to scuba diving education.

History[edit | edit source]

SDI was created in 1999 as a modern alternative to traditional scuba diving training agencies. It was the first major diving organization to emphasize the use of online training for its curriculum. SDI's sister company, TDI, is one of the largest technical diving certification agencies in the world, known for its training in technical, cave, and ice diving.

Training[edit | edit source]

SDI offers a wide range of courses, from beginner to professional level. The training emphasizes practical knowledge, safety and versatility, offering students the chance to expand their skills through experience, using modern technology and teaching methods. SDI was the first agency to provide the option of completing the academic section of its courses online, which is now a standard in the industry.

Certification[edit | edit source]

SDI's certifications are recognized worldwide and can take a diver from beginner level (Open Water Scuba Diver) to professional level (Scuba Diving Instructor). The SDI certification system emphasizes understanding and practical application of knowledge, rather than rote memorization. It also offers specialty certifications in areas such as Underwater Photography, Wreck Diving, and Deep Diving.
