Sendai, Miyagi
Sendai, Miyagi is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, located in the Tōhoku region of Japan. It is the largest city in the Tōhoku region and one of Japan's 20 designated cities.

Sendai was founded in 1600 by Date Masamune, a regional daimyo. The city was heavily damaged during World War II but was rebuilt in the post-war period.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Sendai is located in the northeastern part of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. The city is situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Ōu Mountains. It is known for its tree-lined avenues, which have earned it the nickname "City of Trees".
Economy[edit | edit source]
Sendai is a regional economic hub, hosting numerous companies in sectors such as retail, services, and manufacturing. The city is also home to Tohoku University, one of Japan's top universities, contributing to its reputation as a city of education and research.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Sendai is known for its annual Tanabata festival, one of the largest in Japan. The city is also famous for its local cuisine, including gyūtan (grilled beef tongue) and zunda mochi (sweetened soybean paste).
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Sendai is served by the Tōhoku Shinkansen, a high-speed rail line that connects the city to Tokyo. The city also has an extensive bus network and a subway system, the Sendai Subway.
