Sergey Kravkov (explorer)
Sergey Kravkov (1873–1942) was a prominent Russian explorer and geographer known for his extensive contributions to the exploration of Central Asia and the Arctic. His work significantly advanced the understanding of these remote regions during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Sergey Kravkov was born in 1873 in Russia. He pursued his education in geography and natural sciences at the Imperial Moscow University, where he developed a keen interest in exploration and cartography.
Explorations[edit | edit source]
Kravkov's explorations began in the early 1900s, focusing initially on Central Asia. He conducted several expeditions to the Pamir Mountains, Tien Shan, and the Karakoram range. His detailed maps and observations provided valuable insights into the geography, climate, and cultures of these regions.
In the 1920s, Kravkov shifted his focus to the Arctic. He participated in multiple expeditions to the Russian Arctic, including the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea. His work in these harsh environments contributed to the understanding of Arctic navigation and the potential for the Northern Sea Route.
