Sexual partner
Sexual partner refers to an individual with whom one engages in sexual activity. The term is often used in the context of sexual health and sexual behavior studies, as well as in discussions about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraceptive use.
Definition[edit | edit source]
A sexual partner can be defined in various ways, depending on the context. In general, a sexual partner is someone with whom an individual has had some form of sexual contact. This can include vaginal sex, anal sex, oral sex, or other forms of sexual activity.
Types of Sexual Partners[edit | edit source]
There are several types of sexual partners, including:
- Monogamous partners: These are individuals who have sexual relations with only one person at a time.
- Polygamous partners: These are individuals who have sexual relations with more than one person at a time.
- Casual partners: These are individuals with whom one has sexual relations without a committed relationship.
- Friends with benefits: These are friends who have sexual relations without a romantic relationship.
Sexual Health and Sexual Partners[edit | edit source]
The number and type of sexual partners an individual has can impact their sexual health. Having multiple sexual partners or engaging in unprotected sex can increase the risk of contracting STIs. Regular sexual health screening is recommended for sexually active individuals, particularly those with multiple or new sexual partners.
