Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of hospital services for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and North Powys. It operates the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, Oswestry Maternity Unit, and Wrekin Community Clinic, Euston House, Telford, in Shropshire, England. The trust also serves patients from Wales.

The trust has faced pressure to consolidate services on fewer sites, resulting in various centralization efforts. In 2012, general and vascular surgery were successfully centralized at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. In 2014, consultant obstetrics and inpatient pediatrics were centralized at the Princess Royal Hospital. In November 2017, it was decided to downgrade and relocate emergency services from the Princess Royal Hospital to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

To address these challenges, a large-scale hospital reconfiguration program called FutureFit has been underway since 2013. In March 2018, the Department of Health and Social Care approved over £300 million in funding for the transformation of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The plans were open to public consultation in May 2018. In January 2019, the clinical commissioning group approved the conversion of the accident and emergency department in Telford into an urgent care center and the transformation of the hospital into a planned care site.

The trust employs approximately 5,000 staff members and is led by Chair Catriona McMahon and Chief Executive Louise Barnett.
