Side job

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Side Job refers to a secondary job that an individual takes on in addition to their primary job. Side jobs are often part-time, temporary, or freelance work that provide additional income. They can range from traditional part-time jobs to more modern forms of gig work, such as driving for a rideshare service or selling handmade goods online.

Overview[edit | edit source]

A Side job is typically undertaken to supplement one's primary income, but it can also be a way to pursue a passion or hobby, gain new skills, or transition into a new career. Side jobs can be found in a variety of industries and can take many forms, from traditional part-time employment to freelance or contract work.

Types of Side Jobs[edit | edit source]

There are many types of side jobs, including but not limited to:

  • Freelance work: This includes jobs like writing, graphic design, and programming. Freelancers are self-employed and typically work on a project-by-project basis.
  • Part-time job: This is a job that is done for less than full-time hours. It could be anything from retail work to tutoring.
  • Gig economy jobs: These are jobs that are typically done on a flexible schedule, often through an app or online platform. Examples include driving for a rideshare service or delivering food.
  • Online business: This could be selling handmade goods, vintage items, or digital products online. It could also involve running a blog or YouTube channel.

Benefits and Drawbacks[edit | edit source]

There are both benefits and drawbacks to having a side job. Benefits can include extra income, the opportunity to pursue a passion or hobby, and the chance to gain new skills. Drawbacks can include less free time, potential burnout, and possible conflicts with one's primary job.
