Simone Ortega Klein was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1919. She was raised in a family with a deep love for food and cooking, which greatly influenced her future career.

Ortega began her career as a culinary author in the 1960s. Her most famous work, 1080 Recipes, was first published in 1972. The book quickly became a staple in Spanish households and is often compared to The Joy of Cooking in the United States. In addition to 1080 Recipes, Ortega wrote several other cookbooks, including Quick and Easy Cooking and The Book of Spanish Cooking. She also contributed to various culinary magazines and television shows.
