The college was founded in 1963 by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, with the aim of providing quality medical education to aspiring students. It was named after Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand Municipal Medical College, in honor of Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand, a prominent social worker and philanthropist.
