Sochi is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located on the Black Sea coast near the border between Georgia and Russia. It is one of the southernmost places in Russia and has a population of approximately 343,334 as of the 2010 Census.

Sochi has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. The area was originally inhabited by various tribes, including the Circassians. The city itself was established in 1838 as a fort by the Russian Empire during the Caucasian War. It was named after the nearby Sochi River.
