The South London Theatre is a community theatre in West Norwood in the London Borough of Lambeth, England. It is the largest theatre in South London and is a member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain.
History[edit | edit source]
The South London Theatre was established in 1967 by a group of amateur dramatic enthusiasts. The theatre is housed in a converted fire station, which was built in 1881 and is a Grade II listed building. The building was converted into a theatre in 1977 and has been the home of the South London Theatre ever since.
Productions[edit | edit source]
The South London Theatre stages more than 20 productions a year, ranging from classic plays to modern dramas, comedies, and musicals. The theatre also hosts a number of special events, including play readings, workshops, and social events. The theatre's productions are performed by a mix of professional and amateur actors, and the theatre is always looking for new members to join its ranks.
Facilities[edit | edit source]
The South London Theatre has two performance spaces: the 96-seat Bell Theatre and the 50-seat Prompt Corner. The theatre also has a bar, which is open to the public on performance nights, and a rehearsal room. The theatre is fully accessible, with a lift and disabled toilet facilities.
Community Involvement[edit | edit source]
The South London Theatre is a registered charity and is run by a team of volunteers. The theatre is committed to promoting the arts in the local community and offers a range of opportunities for people to get involved, from acting and directing to set design and technical support.
