Southern Living is a lifestyle magazine aimed at readers in the Southern United States featuring recipes, house plans, and information about Southern culture and travel. It is published by Meredith Corporation.
History[edit | edit source]
The magazine was started in 1966 by The Progressive Farmer Company, the publisher of Progressive Farmer magazine. In 1980, the company changed its name to Southern Progress Corporation to reflect its increasingly diverse business, and in 1985, it was purchased by Time Inc.
Content[edit | edit source]
Southern Living regularly features floor plans, and over the years, many of these plans have been built by people who became fans of the magazine. While these homes are typically Southern in nature, they also cater to those who want a touch of classic Southern style, regardless of their location.
The magazine also covers a variety of topics beyond home plans. It includes recipes inspired by Southern cuisine, travel guides to Southern destinations, and features on Southern culture.
Southern Living Plant Collection[edit | edit source]
In 2009, Southern Living launched the Southern Living Plant Collection, in partnership with Plant Development Services Inc., which develops plants for introduction to the commercial nursery trade.
