Soymovirus
Soymovirus is a genus of viruses in the family Caulimoviridae. There are currently five species in this genus including the type species Soybean chlorotic mottle virus. Diseases associated with this genus include: mosaic and mottle.
Taxonomy[edit | edit source]
The following five species are assigned to the genus:
- Soybean chlorotic mottle virus
- Blueberry red ringspot virus
- Carnation etched ring virus
- Dahlia mosaic virus
- Figwort mosaic virus
Structure[edit | edit source]
Soymoviruses are non-enveloped, with icosahedral geometries, and T=7 symmetry. The diameter is around 50 nm. Genomes are circular and non-segmented, around 8kb in length.
Life Cycle[edit | edit source]
Viral replication is nuclear. Entry into the host cell is achieved by penetration into the host cell. Replication follows the dsDNA(RT) replication model. DNA-templated transcription, with some alternative splicing mechanism is the method of transcription. The virus exits the host cell by nuclear pore export, and tubule-guided viral movement. Plants serve as the natural host. Transmission routes are mechanical, seed, and contact.
