Spencer Coggs (born August 6, 1949) is an American politician and the current Milwaukee City Treasurer. He has served in various political offices, including the Wisconsin State Senate and the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Spencer Coggs was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where he earned his degree in education.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Wisconsin State Assembly[edit | edit source]
Coggs began his political career in the Wisconsin State Assembly, where he served from January 3, 1983, to January 3, 2003. He succeeded Marcia P. Coggs and was succeeded by Leon Young.
Wisconsin State Senate[edit | edit source]
In 2003, Coggs was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate, representing the 6th district. He served in the Senate until April 2012, when he was succeeded by Nikiya Harris Dodd. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as healthcare, education, and economic development.
Milwaukee City Treasurer[edit | edit source]
In April 2012, Coggs was elected as the Milwaukee City Treasurer, a position he currently holds. As City Treasurer, he is responsible for managing the city's finances, including the collection of taxes and the investment of city funds.

Spencer Coggs is a member of the Democratic Party. He has been active in various community organizations and has worked to improve the lives of his constituents through his public service.
