Spongmonkeys
Spongmonkeys[edit | edit source]
The Spongmonkeys, also known as the Quiznos Spongmonkeys, are a fictional duo of animated characters that gained popularity through a series of commercials for the fast-food chain Quiznos. Created by Joel Veitch of the animation website Rathergood, the Spongmonkeys quickly became an internet sensation in the early 2000s.
History[edit | edit source]
The Spongmonkeys first appeared in a Quiznos commercial titled "We Like the Moon" in 2004. The commercial featured the Spongmonkeys singing a catchy jingle about their love for the moon while promoting Quiznos' toasted subs. The unique and somewhat bizarre nature of the commercial, combined with the infectious song, captured the attention of viewers and quickly spread across the internet.
Cultural Impact[edit | edit source]
The Spongmonkeys' commercial became a viral sensation, with many people sharing and remixing the video online. The catchy jingle, with its repetitive lyrics and distinctive animation style, became a popular meme and was often referenced in various internet communities.
The Spongmonkeys' popularity led to their appearance in other Quiznos commercials, including one where they sang about the "spongmonkeys" themselves. They also made appearances in other media, such as the television show "Weird Al" Yankovic's "VH1 Storytellers" episode.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Despite their initial popularity, the Spongmonkeys eventually faded from the mainstream spotlight. However, they remain a memorable part of internet culture and are often referenced in discussions about early internet memes.
