Sports

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Sports are all forms of usually competitive physical activity or games which, through casual or organized participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment for spectators.

History of Sports[edit | edit source]

The history of sports goes back at least 3,000 years. In the beginning, sports often involved the preparation for war or training as a hunter, which explains why so many early games involved the throwing of spears, stakes, and rocks, and sparring one-on-one with opponents.

Types of Sports[edit | edit source]

Sports can be broadly classified into three categories: Physical sports, Mind sports, and Motor sports.

Physical Sports[edit | edit source]

Physical sports are those that require significant physical exertion and skill. Examples include Football, Basketball, Cricket, Tennis, Athletics, and Gymnastics.

Mind Sports[edit | edit source]

Mind sports, on the other hand, are those that primarily require mental skills. Examples include Chess, Go, and Bridge.

Motor Sports[edit | edit source]

Motor sports involve the racing of motor vehicles. Examples include Formula One, MotoGP, and NASCAR.

Sports and Society[edit | edit source]

Sports have a significant impact on society, including physical, social, and economic aspects.
