History[edit | edit source]

St. Michael's General Hospital was opened by the Sisters of St. Martha in 1929. In 1955, a municipal hospital was built nearby, which is now the location of the current Chinook Regional Hospital. Both hospitals underwent expansions until 1960 when it was decided to rebuild the municipal hospital and transform St. Michael's into a long-term care facility.
