Stanislav Aseyev
Stanislav Aseyev (born October 1, 1989) is a Ukrainian writer, journalist, and former political prisoner. He is known for his work as a correspondent and his imprisonment by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Stanislav Aseyev was born in Donetsk, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which is now part of independent Ukraine. He studied at the Donetsk National Technical University, where he earned a degree in philosophy.
Career[edit | edit source]
Aseyev began his career as a journalist and writer, contributing to various Ukrainian publications. He wrote under the pseudonym "Stanislav Vasin" to protect his identity while reporting from the Donetsk region, which was under the control of pro-Russian separatists.
Work as a Correspondent[edit | edit source]
Aseyev's reports provided valuable insights into life in the Donetsk People's Republic. He contributed to several Ukrainian media outlets, including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Ukrayinska Pravda. His work often highlighted the human rights abuses and the socio-political situation in the region.

In June 2017, Aseyev was detained by the Donetsk People's Republic on charges of espionage. He was held in captivity for over two years, during which he was subjected to torture and inhumane conditions. Aseyev was released in December 2019 as part of a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and the Donetsk People's Republic. His release was widely covered by international media, and he has since become an advocate for the rights of political prisoners.
