Stephen Frink was born and raised in Illinois, United States. He developed an interest in photography at a young age. He pursued his passion for photography and graduated with a degree in Photojournalism from the University of Illinois.

After graduation, Frink moved to Florida Keys, where he started his career as a professional underwater photographer.
