Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, comedian, writer, and presenter. He is known for his work in television, film, radio, and literature. Fry first gained fame in the 1980s as part of the comedy duo Fry and Laurie with Hugh Laurie, and he has since become a prominent figure in British entertainment.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Stephen Fry was born in Hampstead, London, and raised in Norfolk. He attended Uppingham School and later Stout's Hill, a preparatory school. Fry's academic journey was marked by both brilliance and challenges; he was expelled from two schools and spent three months in prison for credit card fraud. Despite these setbacks, Fry excelled academically and won a scholarship to Queens' College, Cambridge, where he studied English literature.

Fry's television career began with the sketch show A Bit of Fry & Laurie, which he co-wrote and starred in with Hugh Laurie. The show ran from 1989 to 1995 and was well-received for its clever and satirical humor. Fry also starred in the popular series Jeeves and Wooster, based on the works of P.G. Wodehouse, where he played the role of Jeeves.
Fry's other notable television work includes hosting the quiz show QI from 2003 to 2016, where he became known for his wit and erudition. He has also appeared in numerous documentaries, including Stephen Fry in America and Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive.
