Stewart Crameri is a former professional Australian rules football player who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). Born on August 10, 1988, in Maryborough, Victoria, Crameri's journey to the AFL was marked by his versatility and strong performance in various positions on the field, primarily as a forward.

Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Crameri's football journey began in his hometown of Maryborough, where he showcased his talent in local leagues. His performances caught the attention of scouts from higher leagues, leading to his move to the Bendigo Bombers, a Victorian Football League (VFL) team affiliated with the Essendon Football Club.

AFL Career[edit | edit source]

Crameri's AFL career commenced when he was drafted by the Essendon Football Club in the 2009 Rookie Draft. Making his debut in 2010, Crameri quickly established himself as a key forward for the Bombers. His ability to kick goals consistently, coupled with his work rate and pressure acts, made him a valuable player for Essendon.

During his time at Essendon, Crameri was involved in the controversial supplements saga that engulfed the club. Despite the off-field distractions, he continued to perform at a high level, leading Essendon's goalkicking in multiple seasons.

In 2013, Crameri made the move to the Western Bulldogs, seeking new challenges and opportunities. At the Bulldogs, he continued to demonstrate his goal-kicking prowess and played a role in the team's forward structure. Crameri's tenure with the Bulldogs included participation in their 2016 premiership-winning season, although he did not play in the grand final due to injury.

Later Career and Retirement[edit | edit source]

After several seasons with the Western Bulldogs, Crameri's career was hampered by injuries, which limited his impact on the field. In 2018, he was delisted by the Bulldogs and subsequently drafted by the Geelong Cats in the rookie draft. However, his time at Geelong was short-lived, and he did not manage to secure a regular spot in the senior team.

Crameri announced his retirement from professional football in 2019, closing the chapter on a career that, while affected by injuries and controversies, showcased his talent and contribution to the teams he represented.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Stewart Crameri's AFL career is remembered for his goal-scoring ability, versatility, and resilience. Despite facing challenges, including the Essendon supplements saga and injuries, he remained a committed and hardworking player. His journey from local leagues to the AFL serves as an inspiration to aspiring footballers.
