Strathisla distillery
Strathisla Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Keith, Moray, Scotland. It is the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Highlands, having been established in 1786. The distillery is owned by Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard, and is a key component in the Chivas Regal blend.
History[edit | edit source]
The distillery was founded by Alexander Gordon and George Smith under the name 'Milltown Distillery'. In 1870, the distillery was purchased by William Longmore, who renamed it 'Strathisla'. The distillery was sold to Chivas Brothers in 1950 and has remained under their ownership since.
Production[edit | edit source]
Strathisla Distillery uses traditional methods of whisky production. The distillery sources its water from the Broomhill Spring, and uses both malted barley and yeast in the fermentation process. The distillery has two wash stills and two spirit stills, which are used in the distillation process. The whisky is then aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years, as per Scotch whisky production regulations.
Products[edit | edit source]
Strathisla Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including a 12-year-old, an 18-year-old, and a 25-year-old. The distillery's whiskies are known for their rich, fruity flavour profile, with notes of pear, apple, and honey. In addition to its single malts, Strathisla also contributes to the Chivas Regal blend.
Visitor Centre[edit | edit source]
The Strathisla Distillery features a visitor centre, which offers guided tours of the distillery and tastings of its whiskies. The visitor centre also includes a shop, where visitors can purchase Strathisla's whiskies and other merchandise.
