Straub Brewery
Straub Brewery[edit | edit source]
Straub Brewery is a historic beer brewing company located in St. Marys, Pennsylvania. The brewery was founded in 1872 by German immigrant Peter Straub, who had a passion for brewing traditional German-style beers. Today, the brewery is still family-owned and operated, making it one of the oldest breweries in the United States to remain in continuous operation under the same family.
History[edit | edit source]
Peter Straub emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1869. He initially worked at the Eberhardt and Ober Brewery in Pittsburgh, but moved to St. Marys in 1872 to start his own brewery. The Straub Brewery has been in continuous operation since then, surviving the Prohibition era by producing "near beer" and other non-alcoholic beverages.
Beers[edit | edit source]
Straub Brewery produces a variety of beers, including its flagship Straub American Lager, as well as seasonal and specialty beers. The brewery is known for its adherence to the Reinheitsgebot, the German beer purity law, which stipulates that beer can only be made from water, barley, and hops.
Brewery Tours[edit | edit source]
Straub Brewery offers tours of its historic brewery, allowing visitors to see the brewing process firsthand. The tours also include a visit to the Eternal Tap, a free beer tap that has been a tradition at the brewery since Peter Straub's time.
Sustainability[edit | edit source]
Straub Brewery is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The brewery has implemented a number of green initiatives, including energy-efficient brewing processes and a comprehensive recycling program.
