Sung Wan Kim

Sung Wan Kim is a distinguished biomedical engineer and pharmaceutical scientist known for his pioneering work in the field of controlled drug delivery and biomaterials. He is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Utah where he has made significant contributions to the development of new drug delivery systems and biomaterials.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Sung Wan Kim was born in South Korea. He completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry at Seoul National University. He then moved to the United States to pursue his graduate studies. He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Utah.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his Ph.D., Kim joined the faculty of the University of Utah. He has been a Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and also of Bioengineering at the University of Utah. His research has focused on the design and development of new drug delivery systems and biomaterials.

Kim's work in controlled drug delivery has led to the development of several innovative technologies. These include the use of hydrogels for controlled drug release, the development of biodegradable polymers for drug delivery, and the use of nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery.

Kim has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of drug delivery and biomaterials. These include the Controlled Release Society’s Founders Award, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists’ Research Achievement Award in Pharmaceutical Technologies, and the Biomaterials Science and Engineering’s Clemson Award for Basic Research.
