Supraclavicular
Supraclavicular refers to the area above the clavicle, also known as the collarbone. This region is significant in the field of medicine due to its proximity to vital structures such as the lungs, heart, and major blood vessels.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The supraclavicular region is located at the base of the neck, above the clavicle. It is divided into left and right sides by the sternum, or breastbone. This area contains important structures including the subclavian artery, subclavian vein, and brachial plexus, a network of nerves that control the arm and hand.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
The supraclavicular area is often examined during a physical examination. Swelling or lumps in this region, known as supraclavicular lymphadenopathy, can be a sign of various medical conditions, including infection, cancer, or autoimmune disease.
