Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is an NHS hospital trust in the United Kingdom. It was formed in April 1998 through the merger of East Surrey Healthcare NHS and Crawley Horsham NHS Trusts. The trust operates East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, Surrey, as well as outpatient services at various locations in Surrey and West Sussex.
With a workforce of approximately 3,500 employees, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is a major local employer. It provides healthcare services to a population of around 535,000.
Developments[edit | edit source]
In 2015, the trust was selected as one of five to benefit from a five-year, £12.5 million program led by Jeremy Hunt to introduce the clinical engagement and culture tools of the Virginia Mason Medical Center from the United States. This program aimed to improve patient safety and outcomes within the English NHS.[1]
In 2015, the trust also established a joint venture called Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership with the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. However, the venture faced accreditation suspension in 2016 due to staff shortages affecting turnaround times.[2]
In 2017, the trust received £924,488 to expand and restructure its emergency department.[3] However, it closed its outpatient fertility clinic in 2016.[4]
Performance[edit | edit source]
In 2015, the trust was recognized by the Health Service Journal as one of the top 100 NHS trusts to work for. It had a workforce of 3,161 full-time equivalent staff and a sickness absence rate of 3.33%. Additionally, 77% of staff recommended it as a place for treatment and 70% recommended it as a place to work.[5]
