Susan Love

Susan M. Love is an American surgeon, a prominent advocate of preventive medicine, and author. She is best known for her work on breast cancer and women's health.

Early life and education

Susan Love was born in New Jersey in 1948. She attended Fordham University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She later attended SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree.

Career

After completing her medical training, Love began her career as a general surgeon. She quickly developed an interest in breast surgery, and in 1980, she established the first breast cancer clinic in Boston at Beth Israel Hospital.

In 1988, Love published Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book, which has since been updated and republished several times. The book is considered a definitive resource on breast health and breast cancer.

In 1990, Love moved to Los Angeles, where she became the Medical Director of the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center. She held this position until 1995, when she founded the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the eradication of breast cancer.

Personal life

Love is openly lesbian. She has two daughters and lives in Los Angeles.

Awards and recognition

Over the course of her career, Love has received numerous awards and recognition for her work in the field of breast cancer research and women's health. These include the Komen Brinker Award for Scientific Distinction, the American Cancer Society Medal of Honor, and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship's Cancer Advocacy award.
