Swaziland, officially known as the Kingdom of Eswatini, is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Mozambique to its northeast and South Africa to its north, west, and south.

The history of Swaziland dates back to the early Stone Age. The first known inhabitants of the area were the San people, also known as Bushmen. In the 16th century, the area was inhabited by the Nguni people, who were later followed by the Swazi people in the late 18th century. The country was a British protectorate from 1903 until it gained independence on September 6, 1968.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Swaziland is a small country, with a total area of approximately 17,364 square kilometers. The country is divided into four topographical areas: the Highveld, Middleveld, Lowveld, and Lubombo plateau. The major rivers in the country are the Great Usutu River and the Komati River.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Swaziland is diverse, with agriculture, forestry, and mining playing significant roles. The country is known for its sugar exports, but also produces citrus, cotton, and tobacco. Swaziland's currency is the Swazi lilangeni.

Swaziland's culture is deeply rooted in its history and traditions. The Swazi people are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes music, dance, and art. The country's most well-known cultural event is the annual Umhlanga, or Reed Dance.

Government and Politics[edit | edit source]

Swaziland is an absolute monarchy, with the king as the head of state. The country's political structure includes a dual system of a parliamentary democracy and traditional tribal leadership.

Healthcare in Swaziland is a major concern, with the country having one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the world. The government has implemented various programs to combat the epidemic and improve the overall health of the population.

Education[edit | edit source]

Education in Swaziland is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 16. The country has a number of primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including the University of Eswatini.
