Szymon Kołecki (Polish pronunciation: [ˈʂɨmɔn kɔˈwɛt͡skʲi]; born 12 October 1981 in Oława, Poland) is a Polish former Olympic weightlifter and current MMA fighter. He is known for his achievements in weightlifting at the Olympic Games, as well as his transition into mixed martial arts later in his career.

Early Life and Weightlifting Career[edit | edit source]

Szymon Kołecki began his weightlifting career at a young age, showing promise in the sport. He quickly rose through the ranks in Poland, becoming one of the country's top weightlifters. Kołecki competed in several weight classes, primarily focusing on the 94 kg and 105 kg categories.

His major breakthrough came at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in the 94 kg category. Despite a strong performance, he finished just outside of the medal positions. Kołecki continued to compete at the highest level, participating in World Weightlifting Championships and European Championships, where he won multiple medals.

The pinnacle of Kołecki's weightlifting career came at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he won a silver medal in the 94 kg category.
