Tōkai region

Tōkai region is a geographical area of Japan located along the Pacific Ocean. The region is part of the larger Chūbu region and includes four prefectures: Aichi Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture, Mie Prefecture, and Shizuoka Prefecture. The name "Tōkai" is a combination of the characters for "east" (東) and "sea" (海), reflecting the region's eastern location on the island of Honshu.

The Tōkai region is characterized by its coastal location, with the Pacific Ocean to the east. The region is largely flat, with some mountainous areas in the west. The Kiso Three Rivers and the Ise Bay are significant geographical features of the region.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The Tōkai region is one of Japan's leading industrial centers, with a strong focus on the automotive and aerospace industries. The region is home to many major Japanese companies, including Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation. The region also has a strong agricultural sector, with notable products including green tea, oranges, and pearls.

The Tōkai region is known for its rich cultural heritage, including traditional arts such as Mino-yaki pottery and Shizuoka tea ceremonies. The region is also home to several important historical sites, including Atsuta Shrine and Ise Grand Shrine.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

The Tōkai region is well-connected by transportation infrastructure, including the Tōkaidō Shinkansen bullet train line and the Chūō Expressway. The region's major airport is Chubu Centrair International Airport.
