Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) is a Tanzania-based company primarily engaged in the production, distribution and sale of malt beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and alcoholic fruit beverages in Tanzania.

History[edit | edit source]

Tanzania Breweries Limited was founded in 1933 as Tanganyika Breweries in Tanganyika (now Tanzania). Tanganyika Breweries was acquired by Nairobi based Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) in 1935. In 1936, KBL and Tanganyika Breweries operations were merged leading to the creation of the new company East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

Tanzania Breweries Limited operates through various brands which include Castle Lager, Castle Milk Stout, Castle Lite, Peroni, Redds, Kilimanjaro Lager, Balimi Extra Lager, Safari Lager, Grand Malt, Konyagi, Ndovu Special Malt and many others.

Ownership[edit | edit source]

The company is a subsidiary of AB InBev. As of September 2016, the major shareholders in the company stock are: AB InBev with 54.1% and the public who hold the remaining 45.9%.

Market Share[edit | edit source]

Tanzania Breweries Limited controls approximately 75% of the beer market in Tanzania.
