Tarcento
Tarcento is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Udine in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 90 kilometres (56 miles) northwest of Trieste and about 20 kilometres (12 miles) northwest of Udine.

Tarcento occupies a strategic location at a bridging point on the Torre River, situated at the foot of the Julian Prealps, but also extending to the hills and plateaux immediately south of the river.
History[edit | edit source]
The origins of Tarcento are ancient, dating back to the Bronze Age. The area was inhabited by the Celts and the Romans. The name "Tarcento" comes from the Celtic word "tar" (mountain) and the suffix "-ent" (town), meaning "the town on the mountain".
Main Sights[edit | edit source]
Tarcento contains several historic sights such as the Parish Church of Saint Peter, the Villa De Rubeis-Desnerch and the Villa Moretti. The Parish Church of Saint Peter is an example of Gothic architecture, while the Villa De Rubeis-Desnerch is a 17th-century villa. The Villa Moretti is a grand mansion that was the home of the Moretti family, and is now a cultural center.

Tarcento is known for its traditional festivals, including the Festa dei Fiori (Flower Festival) and the Festa del Vino (Wine Festival). The Festa dei Fiori is a spring event that celebrates the blooming of flowers, while the Festa del Vino is an autumn event that celebrates the local wine production.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Tarcento is mainly based on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of grapes for wine production. The area is known for its high-quality wines, including the famous Friuli wines.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of 31 December 2004, Tarcento had a population of 5,779 and an area of 31.5 square kilometres (12.2 sq mi).
