The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is a state-owned public transport corporation in the Indian state of Telangana. It was established in 2014 following the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) into two separate entities for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

History[edit | edit source]

The TSRTC was formed on June 2, 2014, coinciding with the official formation of the state of Telangana. Prior to this, the region was served by the APSRTC, which was one of the largest public transport providers in India. The bifurcation was necessitated by the administrative division of Andhra Pradesh into two states, leading to the creation of a separate transport corporation to cater to the needs of Telangana.

Operations[edit | edit source]

TSRTC operates a wide network of bus services across the state of Telangana and to neighboring states. The corporation's services include city buses, intercity buses, and long-distance services. TSRTC is known for its extensive coverage, reaching even remote villages and towns, thus playing a crucial role in the public transport infrastructure of Telangana.

Fleet[edit | edit source]

The TSRTC fleet consists of various types of buses, including:

  • Ordinary Buses: These are the standard buses used for city and rural services.
  • Express Buses: Faster services with fewer stops, primarily used for intercity travel.
  • Deluxe and Super Luxury Buses: Offering more comfort and amenities for longer journeys.
  • AC Buses: Air-conditioned services for premium travel experience.

Depots and Workshops[edit | edit source]

TSRTC operates numerous depots and workshops across Telangana to maintain its fleet. These facilities are responsible for the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of buses, ensuring safety and reliability in operations.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

TSRTC faces several challenges, including financial constraints, competition from private operators, and the need to modernize its fleet. The corporation has been working on strategies to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and enhance passenger services.

Future Plans[edit | edit source]

TSRTC aims to expand its services and improve the quality of public transport in Telangana. Plans include the introduction of electric buses to reduce carbon emissions, upgrading existing infrastructure, and implementing digital ticketing systems to enhance passenger convenience.
